Do you put up decorations for the holidays? If so, when do the decorations go up and when do you take them down?

We have loads. My mum really goes mad on Christmas.

We put them up usually on the 1st December (or the closest time to that when my mum has a day off), but my mum likes to be the first to put them up. This year, however, she's seen two houses with their decorations up already. So we're putting them up on the 30th November instead! Far too early.

We always take them down on the 2nd January, because it's usually the last day my mum has off, and as much as she's itching to put them up, she's had enough of them and the mess by a week and wants them gone.

I also help my nan put hers up. We go to Dublin each year near Christmas to visit my uncle and she puts them up a week before then. This year, that's this weekend, so I'll go round to help her. Like my mum, she takes them down on the 2nd or the 3rd.

All it takes is a blackout to realize how much we rely on electricity. What's your most memorable story from a power outage?

View 501 Answers

There was one time when I hadn't done my GCSE Statistics coursework on time, and there was an explosion at the generator that serves our house, so the whole power was out. I could have easily gone into school, because the school's power was still on. However, my mum hadn't ironed my uniform (she was working a night shift) so she let me and my brother stay off school. All I did was my Statistics coursework. I don't know why I remember that 'cause it's not really that interesting!

Ooooh, I've just remembered another. I was off school because I broke my finger and everything went off. I texted my friend saying that we had no power and she rung me just so I could hear the chaos that was going on in school. The power had gone there too, and it sounded like so much fun, I so wish I could have been there. Anyway, I ended up talking to my Geography teacher over the phone, which was quite weird, and then yeah.

Are you worried about catching the swine flu? Do you have a plan for avoiding contagion or dealing with quarantine?

View 501 Answers

I wasn't that worried until today. There was this "top swine flu symptoms" in the paper today, and I have two of them: headache and joint pain. What made it worse was that it said that if you've been to Mexico or the USA in the past 7 days, you should really be watching out... okay, I returned like two weeks ago, but still.

Blah. Anyway, I'm going to start using my hand sanitizer more. I always carry one round with me, but only use it if I feel like my hands are dirty, but I'll use it more often now.

Have you had an earworm lately? Exorcise it by inflicting it on your friendslist. Post the lyrics or - even better - a video.

Over the past ten years, many friendships have started and/or been renewed on LiveJournal. Of your current LJ friends, who have you known the longest?

View 500 Answers

Oooooh, loads. I've managed to stay in touch with all my FC friends on this ♥.

Soooooooo, my longest known LJ friend would be whoever talked to me first on FC. And seeing as I can't remember who that was, I'm going to say it was my first FC friend,

Have you ever met a celebrity in real life? Who was it and how did your paths cross?

I've met a few actually. There've been a few books signings I went to (Geri Halliwell, Katie Price, Marco Pierre White, Derek Acorah, Des Lynam... I think that's all). That was basically stand in a queue and wait for them to come and sign your book.

I saw David Schwimmer in NYC in 2006. We waited outside the doors of his play (after seeing it of course) and then he came over and had a chat and signed our programmes!

Then another random day in NYC that year, we were walking down some road, I can't remember the name, and there was some event. I saw Julia Roberts, Donald Sutherland, maybe some other people?

Esther Rantzen also came to our school and I got to speak to her!

Errrm... I'm sure there have been a few others. My uncle is semi-famous, in that you only know him if you like Rugby League.

I can't think now.

What is your personal motto or favorite quotation?

View 500 Answers

"Success is the best revenge" recently.

There is another one, which was on a Radio City (local radio station) podcast three years ago, and I've been trying to find the whole verse. The last line of it seems to be a common quote though:

"So don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow can worry about itself. After all, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday."

The boogeyman, global thermonuclear war, being forced to eat broccoli—there's a lot to be afraid of when you're a kid. What was your biggest childhood fear?

View 501 Answers

I was apparently afraid of dandelions, aww.

And then there was the whole fire alarm thing... yeah. That wasn't really that huge when I was a kid though.

Have you ever ruined the ending or given away plot developments in a book, movie, or tv show by telling someone who hasn't seen or read it what happens? Has anyone ever done this to you?

View 501 Answers

All the time.

When me and Peachey walk home together, we always talk about how far along we are in the Twilight series, and I think I was a few chapters into Eclipse and he had nearly finished New Moon at this time. He loves Alice so he was like "I'm up to the part where Alice wants a Porsche", and then I went "yeah, well she gets a Porsche, because blah blah blah..." and told him pretty much most of it.

I stopped myself today though.

And Sophie and Chloe told me everything that happens at the end of Breaking Dawn, in passing conversation. But they haven't told me whether Bella gets turned into a vampire or not, because I told them not to.

This is very Twilight-oriented. I'm sure there have been other books where I've done that.

Oh, last Friday, Jess said she didn't watch ER on Thursday night, and I went "oh Abby leaves", and then she looked so annoyed that I'd told her.

Anyway.

The answer is: I do it all the time without thinking.

Woolworths shut its doors in the U.K. last week, sending many into a frenzy of nostalgia and bargain shopping. What now-closed store or chain do you wish was still open?

View 500 Answers

Hahaha, just to be witty, Woolworths. Woolworths was plain awesome. I used to get pick 'n' mix all the time from there. And when Woolworths closed, so did Whittards Of Chelsea, which is where I always got my Lindt advent calendar from.

RIP Woolworths.

Waterford Crystal went, didn't it? My nan's Christmas tree is like all Waterford Crystal and now she can't get anymore, so it's a shame that's gone...

Idk, all my favourite shops are still open really!

The news is full of stories about people cutting back on their spending. What thrifty measures have you taken since the end of the economy as we know it?

View 500 Answers

I'm spending more than ever! No issues, whatsoever. Of course, I don't pay tax etc., so yeah, what a good time to be alive.

In my eyes, we will recover from this recession, just like we did... 18 years ago, was it?

And in reply to my friend, who isn't on LJ but whatever, changing to the Euro won't fix anything.

Call it gym, P.E., recess, or pure hell, most people have participated in a class at school that focused on games and athletics. What sport or game did you hate the most when you were a kid? What sport or game was your favorite?

Pfft, PE once a week I have. Only until May though. Then, NO MORE!!

Erm, I hated rugby and football... despised it, but we only had to do that up until Yr9. Now, we do different things, and cannot stand basketball or netball.

Love trampolining. We only did it once though in Yr10. And I don't mind badminton or going on the exercise bikes.

PE in general sucks though.

It's hard to ignore the fact that today is Election Day in the U.S. If you went to the polls today, tell us what it was like. Long line? Free stickers? Hanging chads? We want the details.

It's hard to ignore the fact that today is Election Day in the US... in the UK.

I saw the pictures of the long lines on the news this morning, even if it was early hours in the USA. It's all over everyone's Facebook statuses and MSN names (yes, even the Brits'). There are people planning to not sleep tonight, so that they can see the results as soon as possible.

And we're on the other side of the pond :).

I'm not complaining. I actually rather like it.

OBAAAAAMAAAAA!!

Prying eyes are everywhere, from pesky younger siblings to the Patriot Act. What steps do you take to protect your privacy, on or offline?

View 432 Answers

Well, to protect myself from the pesky younger siblings, I lock my laptop when I'm away from it. There's nothing really to protect offline? I hide things I don't want them to have or see? Same with my parents...

Online, I have everything friends-only, apart from Writer's Blocks and hiatus posts. All my Facebook photos are friends only, and I only accept people who I know as friends. Same with MySpace. My MySpace profile is private... Everything I have a profile on, is private.

Offline, I rip up everything that has my name/address/card number on when I chuck it out. I'd go one step further and shred it... but no.
